As an acknowledgement of the growing population in the South Eastern Corridor, the Federal Government have confirmed their support of the Tonkin Hwy Extension by committing $404 million to the project. It is estimated that the region will see a 35% increase in population by 2031(from the 2008 base population).
While some work has commenced, this phase of the project is still officially in the planning phase. The goal of the Extension is to increase accessibility to the corridor as well as ease congestion and improve road safety.
